If you're considering professional scenting for your business, you may be looking at different professional scent machines and wondering whether it makes more sense to buy the equipment outright or use a managed rental service.
The machine itself is only one part of commercial scenting. You also need the right fragrance, correct positioning, appropriate scent intensity, regular refills and someone responsible for keeping the equipment operating properly.
Buying can be the right choice for some businesses. For others, having the system supplied, serviced and managed professionally is far more convenient.
Before You Buy a Professional Scent Machine, Consider This

A professional scent machine needs to suit the actual environment it is being installed in. Choosing one simply because it looks powerful or covers a quoted number of square metres does not necessarily mean it will give the best result in your premises.
Layout, airflow, ceiling height, operating hours, diffuser position and the areas you actually want to scent all affect the final result.
Before buying, ask:
- Is the machine suitable for the size of my premises?
- Where should it be positioned?
- How much fragrance will it use?
- How often will it need refilling?
- Who will adjust the scent level if it is too strong or weak?
- What happens if the machine develops a fault?
- Who will actually look after it six months from now?
Buying the Machine Is Only the Beginning
The purchase price is only one part of owning a commercial scenting system. Once the machine is installed, somebody in the business needs to take responsibility for keeping it operating properly.
Your business may need to manage:
- Fragrance ordering
- Refilling the diffuser
- Scent intensity settings
- Operating schedules
- Cleaning and maintenance
- Faults or equipment problems
- Replacement equipment when required
For an owner-managed business this may be perfectly manageable. In a busy hotel, office, retail store, gym or hospitality venue, however, it often becomes another small job that eventually falls to a member of staff.
